Hip Pain

Hip pain can affect every aspect of daily life — from walking and climbing stairs to getting in and out of a car. Physiotherapy targets the root cause of your hip pain to improve mobility, reduce discomfort, and keep you active.

Common Causes of Hip Pain

Hip pain can originate from the joint itself or from the surrounding muscles, tendons, and bursae. Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) occurs when extra bone growth causes friction in the joint. Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (previously called hip bursitis) causes pain on the outside of the hip. Hip osteoarthritis leads to cartilage degeneration and progressive stiffness. Labral tears can cause deep groin pain and catching sensations. A thorough assessment is key to identifying the source and planning effective treatment.

How I Treat Hip Pain

Treatment for hip pain depends on the underlying cause but typically includes manual therapy to improve joint mobility, targeted exercises to strengthen the hip and pelvic muscles, and modifications to activities that may be aggravating the condition. For hip osteoarthritis, exercise-based management is the gold standard treatment recommended by all major clinical guidelines. I create progressive programmes that improve function and reduce pain, helping you stay active for as long as possible.
